July 2023 Newsletter
Friends,
As July comes to an end and the Legislature enters its August recess, I wanted to take some time to reflect on my first 54 days in office and update the residents of the 10th Suffolk District on what I’ve been working on alongside my colleagues in the State House.
Earlier today, I was proud to vote on an FY 2023-24 Budget that included over $1.1M that will directly benefit residents and organizations within the 10th Suffolk District, including:
$250,000 for senior programming in the Parkway
$100,000 for Parkway Little League’s Bunker Field renovations
$50,000 for Rose’s Bounty Food Pantry
$25,000 for Roslindale Village Main Streets
$10,000 for the Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts
$10,000 for the Footlight Club
I’m also proud to have voted on a budget that provides the City of Boston with a seat on the MBTA Board of Directors, provides universal free meals for our students, invests in our early education workforce, covers the cost of calls for inmates in our prisons and their families, provides protections for renters, and so much more.
I want to thank Speaker Mariano, Chair Michlewitz, and the members of the Conference Committee for their leadership and steadfast commitment to the people of the Commonwealth. I would also be remiss not to thank my predecessor Representative Coppinger, Senator Rush, and Representative Consalvo for their advocacy and leadership on behalf of the 10th Suffolk District during this budget cycle.

In my first 54 days in office, my Legislative Aide and I have attended over 55 events and meetings in the community, including coffee hours, civic association meetings, and meetings with local business groups and community advocates. We’ve been committed to delivering excellent constituent services on behalf of the district and will continue working diligently to deliver for every resident who reaches out to my office seeking assistance. I was proud to host a water station during this year’s Corrib Road Race with my fantastic volunteers, and Eloise and I were ecstatic to march in this year’s Pride Parade (her first one!).
We’ve been in constant contact with the residents of the 10th Suffolk District regarding the policies you want to see us working on in the State House and look forward to your continued outreach and advocacy. Last week, I announced that I’ve officially been assigned to the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses, the House Committee on Federal Stimulus and Census Oversight, and the House Committee on Operations, Facilities and Security. I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work alongside my fellow Committee Members.

Each year, the House files over 6,000 bills, and my team and I are hard at work reviewing which bills to co-sponsor. To take a look into some of the bills I’ve cosponsored, you can click here. I’m looking forward to taking more time in August to review additional legislation to sign my name onto and collaborating with constituents to determine where my attention is best spent.
These first 54 days in office have already been some of the most fulfilling and educational days in my life. I’m grateful every day to the residents of the 10th Suffolk District for your faith and trust in me, and I look forward to our continued partnership in the days, months, and hopefully, years to come.
With Thanks,
Bill
