An Update On Our Work
Dear friends-
I am proud to have served as your State Representative for just over eight months, and every moment has been an absolute privilege. As we enter February, I want to update you on what I have been working on in the State House and around our community.
In the district...
Be it attending great local events, participating in community meetings, or meeting with constituents, I’ve spent most of these past months in and around the district connecting with residents and stakeholders in West Roxbury, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, Brookline, and Chestnut Hill.
Since my swearing in, I’ve attended multiple events supporting our local Main Streets programs and local businesses and offered assistance when possible; celebrated various ribbon cuttings; supported several programming events for seniors in the district and across Greater Boston with Ethos, Age Strong, and other partner organizations; and marched in parades celebrating our community.
I have had the honor of speaking with students from the district after their tour of the State House, and in turn, I have enjoyed visiting BPS schools that serve our students and families.
It has been an honor to meet with and celebrate many of our our seniors and older residents for incredible accomplishments, including a mural dedication to Medal of Honor Recipient and Former Secretary of Veterans’ Services Captain Tom Kelley, and the celebration of Tabitha Goggins’ 105th birthday at Sophia Snow Place. From coffee hours throughout the district to park and playground meetups, and everything in between, I have enjoyed my time engaging with neighbors and hearing about how I can be of help.
The 10th Suffolk District is home to so many great events and inspirational organizations like the Jason Roberts Challenger League, Friends of the Kilmer, Holy Name Parish School, the Roslindale Day Parade, Parkway Youth Hockey, Parkway Youth Flag Football, Parkway Little League, Parkway Youth Soccer, and more. As Representative, I have worked closely with each, sponsored their incredible work, and look forward to promoting these anchors of our community.
During the holidays, I joined our community in delivering turkeys and other home-cooked meals for Thanksgiving, supporting those in need during the Christmas and holiday season. I also teamed up with former Rep. Ed Coppinger and Alan MacKinnon to continue the holiday tradition decorating Centre Street.
Much of my prior time in government working for Councilor Matt O'Malley was focused on providing strong and responsive constituent services, and I’m proud to say that we have hit the ground running. In our short time at the State House, my office has helped dozens of constituents -- offering assistance through the complex unemployment system, finding much needed housing or assistance with remaining in their homes, cleaning up and maintaining state-owned property across the 10th Suffolk District, and navigating other services at the state, municipal, and federal levels.
To contact my office, call 617-722-2460, or email me at bill.macgregor@mahouse.gov. You can also email my Legislative Aide, Michael Giordano, at michael.giordano@mahouse.gov. We look forward to chatting about issues or helping you with whatever you might need.
On Beacon Hill...
The Legislature has also been hard at work this session. In my first eight months, I voted on a state budget that includes over $1.1 million for the 10th Suffolk District and supported legislation that increases wage transparency for employees working for or seeking to work for large businesses, the first comprehensive tax relief package in a 25 years, an omnibus bill supporting our Veterans, an infrastructure bill, and so much more.
My office has been diving into research on many of the thousands of bills filed in the Legislature this session. I have been thoughtful and intentional in co-sponsoring legislation that reflects the priorities and needs of the district and its residents. I have joined my colleagues in advocating for legislation on mental health, early education and childcare expansion, climate and environmental justice, housing, Veterans and senior services, and more. Of course, I view every piece of legislation through the lens of how it will benefit the residents of the 10th Suffolk District. Some of the bills that I’ve co-sponsored that I’d like to highlight include:
An act relative to fare equity (H.3288)
An act relative to mental health and suicide prevention (H.2003)
An act relative to postpartum depression screenings (H.2163)
A bill that increases support for early childhood education and care (H.489, Common Start)
Universal School Meals (H.603)
A bill that ensures the rest of the Commonwealth is doing their part to address our housing crisis and production goals (H.1379)
Community Choice Energy (H.3852)
An act relative to COLA adjustments for veteran benefits (H.3521)
To view the full list of legislation that I’m a co-sponsor on, you can visit https://malegislature.gov/Legislators/Profile/WFM1/193/Bills/Cosponsored.
I have been working alongside my colleagues in the Boston Delegation, House Leadership, and my various Committees to discuss ways we can achieve our vision for a Commonwealth that works for us all. When I first ran for office, I told you about my commitment to confronting the greatest challenges of our time -- addressing inflation and the rising cost of living, expanding access to quality early childhood care, increasing investment in mental health services, delivering tax relief for our families and seniors, combatting the housing crisis, and promoting environmental sustainability. I’m just as committed to those goals today as I was back then, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work on your behalf every day.
What's next?
Though we’ve gotten off to a great start, I am even more excited about the work ahead. I’m looking forward to continuing partnerships with my colleagues in City, State, and Federal government that center on delivering common-sense policy and responsive constituent services for the people of West Roxbury, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, Chestnut Hill, and Brookline. I will continue fighting for funding that will go directly towards benefitting the 10th Suffolk District. And as the Legislature continues to meet for the remainder of our legislative session, you can be sure that I’ll be voting with the best interests of our community in mind.
Moving forward, you can also expect to see my office highlighting local businesses in the district, as well as state programs that we’d like to raise awareness about. We’re also going to continue connecting with you directly. We already hosted our first coffee hour of 2024, and we’re going to continue to do so throughout the year. To make sure you don’t miss these updates, make sure to follow @votebillmacgregor on both Facebook and Instagram.
I am looking forward to the months ahead, and I am sincerely thankful to you for your support. Being able to advocate on your behalf is the privilege of my lifetime, and I will never take it for granted.
With gratitude,
Bill MacGregor
State Representative, 10th Suffolk District
