A Productive February

Dear Friends-

Having closed out February and my ninth month as your State Representative, I want to take a moment to reflect on another great month spent with community.

From touring the State House with Brookline students to meeting with 10th Suffolk seniors to discuss issues important to them, we've made the shortest month of the year just as impactful as the rest!

Thank you for reading, and please feel free to reach out: call 617-722-2460, or email me at bill.macgregor@mahouse.gov. You can also email my Legislative Aide, Michael Giordano, at michael.giordano@mahouse.gov.

WITH THE COMMUNITY

Ward 20 Democratic Caucus

I was proud to join neighbors and fellow elected officials at the Ward 20 Democratic Caucus this month. Congrats to everyone elected to represent Ward 20 at the State Convention in June in Worcester.

Thank you to the Ward 20 Democratic Committee for always organizing this caucus, and congrats to Cathleen Fiumara on being elected 20 straight years!

Senior Lobbying Day

I had the honor of meeting with seniors from the district in my State House office to discuss ways to support them in the FY25 budget.

Making life easier for our seniors is one of my top priorities as a State Rep, and I'm grateful to have met with these amazing community members and advocates.

The Brookline Angle

I've always had a strong connection to Brookline, and I'm so proud to be part of the Brookline delegation. This month, we had three separate events that I'm excited to share with constituents, especially in Precinct 16.

Baker School Visit

At the start of the month, I had the privilege of hosting Baker School students for a tour of the State House. I'm grateful to fellow Brookline delegation members for joining me in hosting them.

I was especially excited that the visiting class included my nephew, Jack!

Meeting w/ the Brookline Commission for Women

My daughter, Eloise, and I were grateful for the opportunity to join the Brookline Commission for Women’s February meeting to introduce ourselves and talk a bit about my work on Beacon Hill. We’re so grateful for the work of the Commission and I look forward to hearing about ways to support them further.

Brookline School Committee

It was a pleasure to join my colleagues in Brookline’s state and federal delegation for the annual meeting between the School Committee and Legislators. I’m privileged to work alongside such dedicated public servants, and look forward to our shared work ahead.

ON THE HILL

Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit

Last year, I voted to more than double the property tax relief for rent for seniors from $1,200 to $2,590. The Senior Circuit Breaker tax credit was created by the Legislature with the goal of alleviating some of the stresses from increasing property taxes and the rising costs of living for seniors.

Senior citizen homeowners may be eligible for this tax credit on their state income taxes if their property taxes paid, along with half of their water and sewer bills, exceed 10% of their income. Seniors who are renting may be eligible to receive a credit when 25% of their annual rent exceeds 10% of their total income.

The 10th Suffolk District has one of the largest senior populations out of any district in Massachusetts. The Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit is just one of the many ways we are working to improve the quality of life for seniors on Beacon Hill. I was so happy to support this important change, and hope that all of our older residents will take the time to find out if they’re eligible.

Please consult a tax professional with specific questions.

Celebrating Black History Month

I was honored to stand alongside my fellow elected officials and leaders in Boston and Beacon Hill to celebrate and recognize Black History Month. I’m proud to live in a city as diverse as Boston, and I look forward to continuing to stand with and celebrate my neighbors of color across Boston, Brookline and the Commonwealth.

CELEBRATING 10th SUFFOLK GRANT RECIPIENTS

Each fiscal year, the state allows cities, towns, and non-profits to apply for grants using funding approved by the Legislature. I am very proud of recent Firefighter Safety Equipment Grants awarded to Boston and Brookline, and Cultural Investment Portfolio Grants awarded to four art institutions located in the 10th Suffolk District. Congratulations to all recipients!

I'm so excited about everything we've done so far, both in our neighborhoods and at the State House. To get all of these updates live, please make sure to follow @votebillmacgregor on both Facebook and Instagram

Stay well, and stay tuned for next month's news!

With gratitude,

Bill MacGregor
