Budgets, Street Hockey, Coffee Hours, and more!

Dear Friends-

These past few months have gone by in a flash, and I want to take a moment to update you on some of the work we've done since I last updated you all. Between passing the house budget, announcing the continuation of a community favorite hockey league with a MacGregor-twist, and connecting with residents in the community, my office has been hard at work representing the 10th Suffolk!

I hope you'll enjoy this month's newsletter. Please feel free to reach out: call 617-722-2460, or email me at bill.macgregor@mahouse.gov. You can also email my Legislative Aide, Michael Giordano, at michael.giordano@mahouse.gov.

A BUSY BUDGET SEASON

Budget season is officially in full swing, and I'm so proud to announce that I've received $350,000 for great organizations in the 10th Suffolk District, and cosponsored even more budget amendments that will support Boston, Brookline, and the residents of the Commonwealth.

I’m especially proud that, even during an incredibly difficult budget year, I was able to work alongside my colleagues to earmark funding for great organizations like Parkway Little League, Rose’s Bounty, and funding for Senior Programming in Southwest Boston. We also used this budget as an opportunity to support our early educators and families, make critically important investments in the MBTA, increase supports for child and adult mental health services, and continue funding programs that have become staples of the Commonwealth, such as Universal School Meals.

Rep. Rob Consalvo and I were able to secure $250,000 in the FY25 House Budget for the Parkway In Motion and Ethos' Senior Pilot at the Elk’s. Supporting our seniors is one of my top priorities, and I’m so grateful to Speaker Mariano, Chair Michlewitz, their teams, and all who supported this funding and our aging population.

I’m so proud to have fought for and received another round of funding for Parkway Little League’s Bunker Field renovations through the FY25 House Budget. This incredible organization has been a staple of the Parkway for generations, and as a former Parkway Little League player (on the Reds), I know this $50,000 earmark will go to great use.

We also managed to secure $50,000 for Rose's Bounty Food Pantry in the FY25 House budget. This money covers a good amount of the pantry’s operating costs, which will allow our Parkway families and individuals struggling with food security to stay fed and healthy when they need it most.

WITH THE COMMUNITY

Even with the rain, the Shamrock Shootout was back this year in full-force. Once again, all of the organizers and volunteers put together another fantastic event.

Since 2008 families in the Parkway come together to celebrate their community by gathering with neighbors both new and old, scoring some “genos”, and devouring hundreds of slices of delicious pizza. I'm so thankful for all of the hardworking volunteers and sponsors without whom this event would be possible.

Looking forward to when my girls go from spectators to players in a couple of years!

It’s been great connecting with West Roxbury and Roslindale residents at the Mayor’s Coffee Hours. These events are always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Boston's great parks and open spaces while hearing directly from constituents about the issues they care about most.

Parkway In Motion really outdid themselves with this year’s Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you to all of the incredible organizers who helped put down 20,000 eggs!

Eloise and Millie had a blast, and I know they weren't alone!

I was proud to join Senator Mike Rush in introducing a resolution commending Alex Miselis for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, a prestigious award only 6% of scouts earn. I joined Councilor Pepen at the event, where we both presented official congratulations from the city and state.

I had a great time joining friends, families, and neighbors in supporting Parkway Little League in their efforts to fundraise for Bunker Field renovations. To donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/parkway-little-league-bunker-field-renovation

SAVE THE DATE

Many have mentioned how they want the Street Hockey League that Rep. Coppinger and Joe Donahue put together for the last decade to come back this summer - I am happy to say that we are going to bring it back as the MacGregor Court Hockey League and will start June 18th.

We are sponsored by NHL Street Boston, who will be registering players on their website (see the link below) and you can request to play with someone on the site (we will make every accommodation we can). Please go to the section Summer 2024, MacGregor Street Hockey League https://www.nhlstreetboston.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1498500

The registration will be $50, but if there is someone unable to pay, please reach out to me directly. I want every kid to have the opportunity to play if they would like to.

There will be 4 Divisions:

Rising Kindergarteners

Rising 1st/2nd Graders

Rising 3rd/4th Graders

Rising 5th/6th Graders

On May 15th from 11-2, the City's Age Strong Commission will be hosting a resource fair for older adults in West Roxbury! Please feel free to share with folks you know who may be interested!

Celebrating 10th Suffolk Grant Recipients

Each fiscal year, the state allows cities, towns, and non-profits to apply for grants using funding approved by the Legislature. Congratulations to Boston Cultural Council and Brookline Commission for the Arts on your funding!

Thank you so much for staying in the loop on what we've been working on. To get all of these updates live, please make sure to follow @votebillmacgregor on both Facebook and Instagram
