Fall in the 10th Suffolk District
Dear Friends,
I hope you are having a great Fall so far! It has been a busy couple of months since my last letter, so I thought I would update you on events in Beacon Hill and in the 10th Suffolk District.
As always, feel free to reach out to my office at 617-722-2460, or email me at bill.macgregor@mahouse.gov any time.
ON BEACON HILL
In September, the Governor signed a home rule petition which added 225 new liquor licenses to the city of Boston. Most of these licenses will be designated for underserved zip codes in the city, and I was proud to petition for Jamaica Plain to be included in the final language of the bill.
This summer, the state legislature passed legislation to strengthen the quality of the state’s long-term care sector, protecting older adults from discrimination and strengthening the industry’s workforce.
I was able to meet Miss Boston 2024, Tatyana Brown, when she visited the State House! Tatyana is a Celtics Dancer and seeks to promote wellness through the arts.
ACROSS THE 10TH SUFFOLK
Last week, I hosted a Veterans Town Hall at American Legion Post 76 with Rep Montaño, Senator Rush, and Secretary Santiago. I was fortunate to listen to feedback from community members and answer questions about the state’s veterans services and recent HERO Act. I'm so grateful for all who have served and to have the opportunity to give back in this small way through my role as a State Representative.
In September, I joined officials and first responders in Boston and Brookline to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, as well as those who united us in the aftermath.
I was honored to speak at the Brookline Fire Department's retirement party this past weekend. I'm so grateful for all that the retirees have accomplished throughout their years of service, and wish them the best during their well-deserved retirement.
I was so excited for the opportunity to host a Moss Hill Ice Cream Social with the Jamaica Hills Association. We had a great group of folks turn out, and even better ice cream from Sweeties in Rozzie Square!
I was thrilled to join so many of my colleagues for the dedication of Flora Way. I appreciate all the hard work from city employees and community members to make this happen.
In September, I was also able to attend a panel focused on Health Equity in Greater Boston hosted by the Red Sox Foundation and BioGen Lab. The panel was very knowledgeable, and I was able to learn how to best leverage partnerships throughout the city to address health inequities.
Eloise, Millie, and I were able to visit the Daughters of Saint Paul in Jamaica Plain in September!
Councilor Matt O'Malley and I also met former Congressman Barney Frank at an event for Kamala Harris hosted by community leaders. Barney represented Brookline for over 30 years in Congress, and I was excited to learn more about his community service and time in office.
Eloise and I stopped by Archdale Village’s block party in Roslindale. Eloise enjoyed the children’s activities, while I was able to showcase my basketball skills!
And finally, this month I joined the Mayor and many of my colleagues in government to celebrate Roslindale at the Roslindale Parade!
I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish over the past few months, and am looking forward to our work in the coming months. To get these updates live, make sure to follow @votebillmacgregor on both Facebook and Instagram.
As November begins, I want to wish you and your families a happy and healthy holiday season!
With gratitude,
Bill MacGregor
State Representative
